Employee Focus – Richard Matravers

Who am I?

I am Richard Matravers, Fee Earner at Russell Worth Solicitors.

How long have I worked for Russell Worth?

I am looking forward to celebrating my first anniversary with the firm at the beginning of December.

What do I do for Russell Worth?

I am a Claims Handler within the Employers and Public Liability Team.

What sort of claims do I deal with?

I conduct a selection of employers and public liability claims. These include slips and trips at work, in supermarkets, injuries whilst on holiday, people who have been bitten by dogs or slipped and fallen in to a duck pond ….

My favourite bit of the job

Succeeding in compensating my clients who truly deserve their damages. Particularly when the Defendant has put up a fight throughout proceedings.

My least favourite bit of the job

I commute over an hour each way to work which can be tiring. Although, it is worth every minute to work with such a friendly and approachable firm. Also it has given me a chance to listen to a lot of Radio 2!

My favourite claim I’ve dealt with

I don’t think I can mention a favourite claim specifically. However, I dealt with some interesting enquiries when previously working for another personal injury firm. I will never forget a gentleman who wanted to make a claim against a public swimming pool because he dislocated his shoulder when he dived in to the water. When I asked what he believed caused his accident the response was … “the water was too hard”.

Country walk or gym?

Why walk when you can run? I don’t believe in gyms. People should be running in the great outdoors not staring at themselves in the mirror, sweating and looking like they want to cry.

Diet or exercise?

Always exercise. My ‘diet’ consists of too much cake and chocolate to be called a diet!

Cornwall or London?

I studied at a university in Cornwall so there is no other option. Also Londoners have a strange look on their face when they see you wearing flip flops in November. In Cornwall on the other hand this is actively encouraged!

Strictly or X Factor?

If I had to make a choice, Strictly.

Wine or water?

Cider …. Although after excessive consumption I find that water is often required the following day!

Pub or Club?

Pub with some good mates, a live band and a few games of pool ….. and maybe a pint of cider …… or two ….. or three …. or four ….

Good book or movie?

Movie – often saves time on having to read the book!

I’d rather be performing on stage in the West End.

I can’t get through the week without …… a Mars Bar. Everything is better after a Mars Bar!

Excellent. The service was efficient from start to finish and I would not hesitate to recommend Russell Worth Solicitors to anybody who is unfortunate enough to meet with a personal injury that is not their fault.
